The votes have been counted and the judges' rankings have been tabulated for The Daytona Beach News-Journal's 2008 Home of the Year contest. The second annual event brought out the best in home designs from builders throughout Volusia and Flagler counties.
The contest was developed to highlight the finest new homes in the two-county area and to recognize the builders of these homes. This year's contest included more than 50 entries – from single-family starter homes to million-dollar masterpieces. The News-Journal's Home of the Year contest includes a wide variety of homes and styles, as well as price ranges. The entries were divided into three price categories - more than $500,001, $300,001 to $500,000 and less than $300,000. Homes also were judged for individual rooms and features such as living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms, bonus rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, outdoor living, landscaping and pools.
In addition to the individual homes, whole communities were judged for the amenities offered, as well as location, entrance, security and general appearance. This year's contest also featured People's Choice awards in which readers were asked to submit a ballot for the homes they visited, naming their favorite Home of the Year entry was their favorite living room, kitchen, master bedroom, outdoor living, pool, etc. Brookhaven at Town Center was a winner in the $300,001-$500,000 category for their living room layout and design.
